MASK MAKING
- Design a mask and create it as a clay mold.
- Apply strips of wet paper, previously soaked in starch water, to the mold. These strips, once dried, will form the mask.
- Once you have achieved the desired thickness for your mask, crack the mold into small pieces and leave them intact. Let the mold and mask dry in the sun.
- Once dry, remove the broken mold pieces from the mask. If any part of the mask was broken during this process, put those back together again and paint the mask to match the colors of your costume.
- Decoration marks the final stage in the creation of your mask, where you will add embellishments such as sharp teeth, a final varnish, etc.
LAS CARETAS: ¿COMO SE HACEN?
- Diseño de una idea llevada a escultura o moldeado en barro.
- Cubrir el molde con papel bien fuerte y mojarlo con agua almidonada. Esto le da forma compacta a la careta.
- Al lograr el grueso requerido, la careta se divide en las partes que sea necesario para lograr sacarla del molde sin que pierda su forma. Llevar al sol para que se seque.
- Al sacar el moldeado, se arman las piezas, como si fuera un rompecabezas, se le dan las terminaciones necesarias, y se decoran de acuerdo al colorido del traje; es ahí donde se logra la armonía, y la combinación entre el traje y la careta
- La decoración determinará la etapa final donde se le ponen los dientes, se le da el último barniz, etc.
