1999-2000 Fulbright Student Scholarship
“
Catherine E. McKinley is the recipient of a Fulbright Student Scholarship
in Ghana for the 1999-2000 academic year, for her ‘impressive accomplishments
and leadership skills,’ according to Alan Schechter, Chairman, the
J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
Ms. McKinley is Associate Director of the Publishing Certificate Program
at the College.
She received her bachelor of arts degree from Sarah Lawrence in 1989
and was a Graduate Fellow at the Africana Studies & Research Center
at Cornell University from 1989-1991. She attended the University of the
West Indies,
Jamaica, for a special year of undergraduate study in African and Caribbean
Literature.
Author of the memoir, The Book of Sarahs (William Morrow, 2000),
Ms. McKinley has served as associate literary agent at Marie
Brown Associates, as literary
programmer at Writers in Performance/ Manhattan Theatre Club,
and as
editor of the anthology Afrekete (Anchor Books, 1995).
She is also recipient if a New York Foundation for the Arts fiction
grant, and an Audre Lorde Estate Memorial grant.”
