half of 1999, the CCNY casts of the Frieze of the Parthenon (sometimes called the "Elgin Marbles") visited Atlanta, GA, for extensive conservation work in the studio of Connie Hansen. The conservation project, funded through a grant from the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation (USA), brought these magnificent 1830s-vintage casts back to their former glory.

casts were a gift presented by Charles M. Leupp, Esq., to the college in 1852, one of the first sets of Parthenon marbles casts to come to the United States. Although not complete, the casts served an important educational function in the CCNY Art Department studio and art history classes for more than a hundred years.

the casts are on view in the City University of New York Graduate Center Lobby and in the Mina Rees Library, 365 Fifth Avenue at 34th Street. A full set of cast images are available from the CCNY Art Collection in Flickr web resource. Artistic Properties web page.
