Materials from series one of five from City College Miscellaneous Historical Information Collection. 1847. 

It includes [five] documents from the series. This series brings together published articles and pamphlets about the College as well as miscellaneous primary and secondary material. It includes the New York State Assembly and Senate bills of March and April 1847 authorizing the Board of Education of New York City to establish a Free Academy were signed by the Governor on May 7, 1847. These bills constitute the College’s charter and photostats of them as proposed are included in the collection. The bills were ratified by a popular referendum held in New York City on June 7, 1847.

Also included are outside perspectives and alumni recollections, as well as autograph manuscript[s] by Richard Rogers Bowker (Class of 1868) regarding student ceremonies to mark change of name from Free Academy of New York to College of the City of New York in 1866.
